The Auld Kirk of Ayr has been a centre of worship in the town of Ayr for over 800 years, first in a building down near the harbour (only the tower, St John's Tower, remains) and then since 1654 in its present location.
Today the church still plays an important role in the civic life of the town. It hosts:
• the annual Remembrance Day service;
• the Kirkin' o' the Council service.
The church is also used on other occasions by various groups within the area, e.g. the NHS celebrated 400 years of a hospital in Ayr with a church service here.
The congregation of the Auld Kirk take their role as the town church seriously and look forward to continuing to serve the people of Ayr for many years to come.
One of the other areas that the church is proud to support is the role the minister plays in schools. The present incumbent is chaplain to Ayr Academy, Kyle Academy, Holmston Primary and Southcraig Special Needs School.
